SHREVEPORT, LA — A Shreveport girl was seriously injured after she was shot in a late night incident.
At around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Shreveport police were called to a house on the 3000 block of Darient Street to a possible shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 3-year-old girl who had been shot in the leg. She was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and is expected to recover.
Investigators revealed an unknown suspect(s) allegedly began shooting at the house from an alleyway north of the home, where 15 shell casings were found.
Police also found a handgun behind the house, which leads detectives to believe there was an exchange of gunfire. Officials think this was not a random act, but directed at the residence.
Chief of Police Willie Shaw, who was with officers at the crime scene, commented on the case saying, “This type of behavior is simply not going to be tolerated. We are going to hunt down the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime and put them behind bars where they belong.”
Anyone with any information regarding this shooting is urged to call Shreveport Police detectives at (318) 673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
