Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Teach for America, an organization that brings young people from all over the country to teach at schools in need, has new core members getting their hands dirty.
New core members spent their day in two youth facilities, including the Family Youth and Service Building, which was formally the School for the Visually Impaired.
New core member Lisa Vinson just got to Baton Rouge from Florida.
She says she's looking forward to her two-year commitment to Teach for America.
"I had some really amazing teachers when I was growing up that helped me open my eyes to things I never thought I would see. They inspired me to do a lot of amazing things,” stated Vinson. “I would have probably never gone to college, and probably never gotten the opportunity to travel. I feel that Teach for America would be a great way for me to be on the other end of that and inspire other kids who might not otherwise have those opportunities."
