The most recent push to re-open River West has been given the “go-ahead” by Iberville Parish leaders.
Tuesday night, the Iberville Parish Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution that would help save the area’s only hospital.
River West shut its doors in May because of ongoing financial trouble.
Leaders believe the creation of a parish-wide hospital district would make River West eligible to receive federal funding.
Council members say the next step in bringing the hospital back is appointing a board complete with doctors and business professionals.

In Iberville Parish there is yet another attempt to re-open the area's only hospital.
In an Iberville parish council meeting local leaders discussed the possibility of reopening River West.
The hospital shut down back in May after months of financial problems.
A resolution put forth by Parish President J. Mitchell Ourso calls for the creation of a parish-wide hospital district.
It would allow the parish to raise the funds to buy River West and hire someone to run it.
Many residents support the move saying they're tired of having to drive all the way to Baton Rouge for medical help.
