New Orleans, La — The Third Annual New Orleans Oyster Festival celebrated that local delicacy – the oyster – this past weekend at Woldenberg Riverfront Park at the Mississippi River. Nearly 20 restaurants showed off their versatility of our region’s favorite bivalve at the Festival. The Festival once again featured oyster competitions including the Acme Oyster Eating Contest and the P&J Oyster Shucking Competition.
The results of all competitions were as follows:
Acme Oyster Eating Contest
Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas from Alexandria, VA
47 dozen Louisiana oysters (breaking her winning record from last year and setting a new world’s record)
Aaron Osthoff from Baton Rouge, LA
39 dozen Louisiana oysters
Adrian Morgan from Dubuque, IA
37 dozen Louisiana oysters
NOTE: The competition was decided by the number of dozen oysters consumed in 8 minutes.
P&J Oyster Shucking Competition

Felix's Restaurant & Oyster Bar
NOTE: All three shucked 18 Louisiana oysters in 2 minutes in the first round; in the final round, Gus Marshall won by shucking 13 Louisiana oysters in 1.5 minutes.
