East Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Female inmates in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison got a chance to reconnect with their kids today.
It's all a part of the EBR Sheriff's Office's "One Day with Kids” program.
Families took part in special parenting classes to help rebuild relationships between incarcerated moms and their kids.
Moms learned anger management skills, self-esteem and better ways to communicate with their loved ones.
For participant Roxana Delaughter, the program offers her a chance to start anew with her family.
"Whenever you're in here, you're desperate,” stated Delaughter. “You especially miss your children, you miss your family, and you have nothing but time to think. You think about the decisions you’ve made."
The program also helped prisoners come up with strategies to help keep them from going back to jail.
