BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — 125 cancer survivors and their caregivers came together for the third annual cancer survivorship picnic in Baton Rouge.
The cancer program of our lady of the lake and Mary Bird Perkins hosted today's event. Survivors were treated to good meal and chance to meet to local famous cancer survivors.
Skin cancer survivor Louisiana State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson and testicular cancer survivor and Project Runway star Anthony Ryan Auld.
"It means a lot just to be able to give back and pay it forward,” Auld said. “That's what it's all about at this point. i was given that second chance and it's fuan dn it just means a lot o be able to do this again. "
"The message here today is for these survivors because for me they are the heroes,” Col. Edmonson, said. “They are the ones that made a difference, went and got checked out, and they are here today.”
The event also featured informational booths where survivors could go to learn about resources available to help them.
