LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — The Lafayette Police Department held a press conference this afternoon to provide more information about the bike of missing ULL student Mickey Shunick, which was discovered on Sunday, May 27 .
Cpl. Paul Mouton says the preliminary investigation revealed that the bike seems to have been placed in its location at the Whiskey Bay Bridge, rather than dropped off the ledge.
The bike does have damage to the rear tire and Cpl. Mouton says they are unsure whether the bike received the damage prior to being placed at that location. He notes that the bike is being processed by a forensic team at the Louisiana State Police.
Detectives are still seeking the identity of the individuals driving the vehicles of interest that were spotted on surveillance footage in the area at the time Shunick went missing. Cpl. Mouton stresses that the individuals in those vehicles are not classified as suspects at this time.
Regarding the missing person case in Indiana, Cpl. Mouton reiterated that the case does not seem to be connected to Mickey Shunick.
