NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Flying the friendly skies is getting a lot more costly for families traveling together, and one New York senator says that has got to change.
Senator Chuck Schumer is asking the U.S. Transportation Department to issue rules that would prevent airlines from charging parents more to sit next to their young children.
Many airlines have added fees for aisle and window seats. The fees vary by airline, but cost about $25 extra each way.
Senator Schumer is also asking the airline industry's trade group to require carriers to voluntarily waive the fee for families.
