NBC News — The world's biggest solar panel maker says Europe could follow the U.S. in levying punitive tariffs on Chinese solar panel imports. Last week, the United States decided to impose a 31% anti-dumping tariff on Chinese solar panel makers. The chairman and chief executive of Suntech power holdings said he didn't believe the U.S. measures were fair.
His company lost money in the first quarter of the year after shipments and prices fell 22% from a year ago and 27% from the October to December quarter. The U.S. says the Chinese government has provided illegal subsidies for the industry. China's commerce ministry thursday accused U.S. government support for six renewable energy projects violated free trade rules.
