Man found in critical condition in prison cell in Lafayette

Lafayette Parish, La — On Wednesday May 23, Lance Alfred, 31, an inmate at Lafayette Parish Correctional Center was found hanging from his bed sheet in his cell, during a wellness check.

A medical code was immediately called and staff responded, resuscitation efforts were made and a heart beat was established prior to his transportation to a local hospital.

Alfred was last reported to be in critical condition.

Lance Alfred was incarcerated on April 24, 2012 and was serving a 3 year sentence for Possession of Cocaine along with a 2 year sentence for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

He was being housed on the second floor in a special management unit and had been previously checked on at 10:13am that morning.
