NBC NATIONAL NEWS — UPDATE: A hearing into whether NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has jurisdiction to punish Saints players for the bounty scandal has been set for May 30.
ORIGINAL STORY: A grievance against the NFL in the Saints bounty scandal will be heard today.
The Players’ Union claims NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't have the authority to hand out discipline for the alleged violations.
The players argue that an arbitrator, not Goodell, has the right to decide player punishment, as well as rule on any appeals.
Two current Saints players, Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma, are facing suspensions from the league for their alleged involvement in the bounty program.
