NBC NATIONAL NEWS — There are 74 days left until the 2012 London Summer Olympics, and the athletes of Team USA are gearing up and chowing down on health foods to prep for the games.
According to reports, the London 2012 Olympic Village will serve up to 60,000 meals to 16,000 Olympic athletes. Olympians will have to choose which food will best fuel their workouts.
Dietician Dr. Rebecca Turner says athletes known that 80 percent of their body's performance comes from diet and 20 percent comes from working out. Turner says average Americans can also keep in shape by following that motto.
"They look at their bodies as their number one resource - if they don't take care of their bodies, keep it fine-tuned, what they put in it, and how they move it, then they are not going to be able to do their sport to the utmost,” said Turner. “We should look at it the same way; although we aren't all Olympic athletes, we are trying to get through the day the best we can."
Here are three things you can do to eat like an Olympian: First, remember to eat breakfast. Second, add healthy snacks throughout the day. Third, make sure to stay hydrated.
