Advisors to FDA ok weight loss drug

NBC NATIONAL NEWS — The country is a step closer to the first new prescription weight loss drug in a decade.

Advisors to the Food and Drug Administration recommended approval of Lorcaserin.

The pill has been shown to lead to a loss of 8-percent of patients' body weight, when combined with exercise and a healthy diet.

The FDA is not required to follow the advice of its advisory panels, but often does. a final decision is expected by the end of June.
