GONZALES, LA — The National Pediatric Blood Pressure Awareness Foundation (NPBPAF) will host its second annual kids fishing derby in celebration of Pediatric Blood Pressure Awareness Month in Louisiana as proclaimed by Governor Jindal. That will happen on Saturday, May 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Cabelas' Pond in Gonzales.
This annual event will promote the organization’s mission of awareness of blood pressure issues in children and the need for increased screenings. This one day event will feature a kids fishing derby, a jambalaya mini pot competition (open to children and adults), music by the pond, and other family activities.
Most importantly, the NPBPAF will have registered nurses providing FREE blood pressure screenings for children ages three to seventeen. This will allow every parent an opportunity to receive a baseline blood pressure for their child.
Last year's event drew large crowds and over 220 children received valuable blood pressure screenings! A large percentage of these children had never had a baseline blood pressure reading. The NPBPAF is hopeful to surpass last year's numbers.
