BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — UPDATE: Baton Rouge Police Detectives have described the suspect as an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene. The suspect is a white male, 5’8”-6” tall, 210-220 lbs, khaki hat, long red wig/beard, blue long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, purple gloves, carrying a dark colored gym bag.
UPDATE: The Baton Rouge Police Department and the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office believe there may be a connection with today’s robbery and one that happened last week.
Detectives are trying to figure out if the same person who robbed the Regions Bank on Siegen Lane back on Monday, April 30 is the same person who committed the robbery this morning. Although no reason was given as to why they believe there’s a connection, the Sheriff’s Department did confirm that the two agencies are working together to identify a possible suspect.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Baton Rouge Police Department is currently working a bank robbery at the Iberia Bank on Highland Road. The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 7.
This is the second bank robbery to occur within city limits within the past week, and the third for the entire parish. Although these robberies have occurred in a clump, the Baton Rouge Police Department says customers should not be afraid when visiting a bank location.
“The bank robbery rate here in Baton Rouge is extremely low,” Cpl, Tommy Stubbs, Baton Rouge Police Department, explained. “We solve a lot of our bank robberies. It is a top priority here at the Baton Rouge Police Department. There’s nothing for anybody to be alarmed about.”
Details are limited at this time. We’ll continue to update here on the NBC33 website and will have a full story on NBC33 News at 5:00 p.m.
