BATON ROUGE, La.(NBC33) —
Lady Tiger basketball coach Nikki Caldwell hosts her 'Cruisin for a Cause' event at Walk Ons inBaton Rouge.
She invited the new Tenn. head coach to be her special guest.
Coach Caldwell is talking about Lady Vol Coach Holly Warlick.
The two coaches will go head to head on the basketball court this fall. But the friendly rivalry is put aside for charity.
Warlick, just took over for retiring coach Pat Summit in Knoxville.
The fundraiser raises money for breast cancer research. It's part of Caldwell’s Champions for a Cause Foundation.
“We just had a former Lady Vol pass away last year”, says Holly Warlick, Lady Vol Head Coach. “So it's pretty dear to us.”
"We're just competing to cross as many miles as we can in a short amount of time but we're also competing to try to find a cure for this deadly disease," says Nikki Caldwell, Lady Tiger Head Coach.
Coach Caldwell was on crutches. You may recall she tore her achilles tendon last weekend playing basketball.
She had surgery Tuesday.
Caldwell says she can't ride her motorcycle because of the injury
But she says she will be able to coach the under-18 USA olympic team.
