NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Michele Bachmann's endorsement of Mitt Romney might carry a lot of weight with two groups of voters he desperately needs behind him.
Bachmann never won a primary and quit the race for the White House in January, but she was a powerful voice for the Tea Party and Republican women.
She offered her endorsement Thursday at a rally in Virginia.
Polls show Romney trails the president with female voters.
Many in the Tea Party movement dreamed of one of their own with the nomination: Santorum, Gingrich, Perry or Michele Bachmann, but not Mitt Romney.
Another issue for Romney is choosing his running mate. Florida Senator Marco Rubio is being mentioned, as well as Rick Santorum. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, who hosted Romney Thursday, is also a contender.
Still, Romney could pick a running mate to specifically help him with the conservative Tea Party or with moderate independent women.
