NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Mitt Romney essentially has the nomination. Now he has to consolidate support from his fellow Republicans.
As Mitt Romney rolled into Republican National Committee headquarters in Washington, his party was closing ranks behind him.
"Americans are tired of being tired of this economy and of this President and they want real change," said Mitt Romney, Presidential Candidate.
Today, he's expected to pick up the endorsement of former candidate Michele Bachmann, and he is appearing today with one of the reported short-list vice presidential candidates, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell.
Just a day earlier, Newt Gingrich suspended his campaign and declared Romney conservative enough.
"This is a choice between Mitt Romney and the most radical, leftist President in American history," said Newt Gingrich, Presidential Candidate.
While Gingrich is out of the way he's leaving behind some attacks already being picked up by the Obama Campaign.
One clip shows Gingrich calling Mitt Romney a liar, another shows Gingrich attacking Mitt Romney for holding millions of dollars in overseas bank accounts.
Attacks which are sure to echo into the fall election season as the race for the White House gets serious.
