NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Federal authorities made an unprecedented nationwide discovery of scams bilking the Medicare program of millions of dollars.
Hundreds of agents fanned out across the country today, raiding businesses and seizing documents from mental health centers, doctor's offices and other healthcare facilities.
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Health and Human Services Director Kathleen Sebelius announced the latest achievements in the ongoing fight against healthcare fraud.
"We've charged 107 defendants in seven different cities, for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud schemes, involving approximately $452 million in false billings," stated Holder.
Six people in Baton Rouge were arrested in this federal government bust. They are:
Hoor Naz Jafri
Roslyn F. Dogan
Sedra J. Signater
Arthur Smith Jr.
Kyeiana E. Murray
Robert E. Booker
James J. Myer
All seven people were charged with Conspirac to Commit Health Care Fraud and seven counts of Health Care Fraud.
