NBC NATIONAL NEWS — It's an amazing story of survival in Florida. A 75 year old golfer is recovering from an alligator attack after a day on the links took an incredibly unexpected turn.
Al miller sits in the lobby of Winter Haven Hospital waiting to be admitted, retelling the story of a fateful day on the greens at Lake Aston Golf Course in Winter Haven, Florida.
While playing golf with three friends, he hooked a shot into the water and never saw a gator lying in wait.
"I proceeded to go out and check for my ball and kind of knew I was out of the hole if I was in the water, couldn't find it, turned around and started walking up to the green, and it attacked me," said survivor Al Miller.
Golfers are still talking about the encounter and the incredibly fortunate outcome.
Wildlife officials say they have reports of residents feeding alligators in that area which is illegal, and officers have since trapped the 9 foot gator responsible for the attack.
