BATON Rouge, LA — LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication will welcome longtime CBS News correspondent and moderator of “Face the Nation” Bob Schieffer to campus on Friday, May 18, to speak at the college’s commencement ceremony.
Schieffer is a 54-year veteran of the news business, has spent 42 years with CBS and is now its chief Washington correspondent. In that time he has covered the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill. He has also moderated “Face the Nation,” the network’s Sunday public affairs broadcast, since 1991 and anchored the “CBS Evening News” from March 2005 until August 2006. He is also the namesake of the Schieffer School of Journalism at Texas Christian University.
“In a city full of puffed-up correspondents, Schieffer has shown other journalists how to get through to newsmakers and to viewers – by focusing on the news rather than himself,” said Manship Dean Jerry Ceppos. “He also never stops trying new things. At 71, he just doubled the length of Face the Nation and improved its website.”
The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the LSU Student Union Theater.
