BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The state run Recovery School District has a brand new plan to fix failing schools in East Baton Rouge Parish. They're calling it the Baton Rouge Achievement Zone.
The goal is to transform and empower schools.
The R.S.D. plans to do that by making participating schools accountable, so much that if a school doesn't meet its performance goals, it could be closed. Baton Rouge Achievement Zone will also rely heavily on community partnerships and parent engagement.
"It makes my heart well just to see that someone is finally making the steps toward making sure that our kids are getting every chance everyday to be successful," Reginald Browhow, father of three children, said about the announcement.
R.S.D. is looking to kickstart this program by the beginning of August.
