NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Shrimpers on the Gulf Coast are asking a federal judge not to approve 2 billion dollar settlement from BP for that 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Members of the American Shrimp Processors say the proposed settlement favors other groups like boat captains and others eligible for claims against the oil giant.
Those groups will be compensated by a formula that is likely to be more generous than the one that will be used for claims from the shrimpers.
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday. That's when the judge will consider preliminary approval of BP's settlement offer.
April 20th marked the two year anniversary of the crisis on the coast.
