BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Joseph is wagging his tail again.
That after a benefit raised hundreds to get him back on his feet.
This is what he looked like weeks ago after he was found abandoned on the streets of Baton Rouge. He had no home, and no hope. But after the benefit the little dog with a heart of gold was rescued.
"The three hundred dollars was just extra donations, the owners of the loft were so generous," said Yelp Volunteer, Beverly Theriot.
The benefit was at The Loft in Perkins Rowe. That's where dozens of people did what they could to help Joseph. And though he's back on his feet he still has a long way to go.
"The part that we're worried about right now is his liver, his liver is damaged, it looks like from toxins," said Joseph’s Foster Owner, Isabella Prehan.
The Loft donated 20 percent of its sales to help pay for Joseph’s medical bills. And Joseph’s new fans were quick to offer an extra helping hand.
But the greater benefit that night was letting Joseph serve as the "spokes puppy" for neglected animals. Organizers hope his newfound celebrity status will inspire make people think about what they can do to help.
"You need to visit your local shelter and see what you can do there and try to foster if you can. It's a rewarding experience,” said Theriot.
