BATON ROUGE, LA — Dr. Neelima Reddy says that each year in Louisiana there are 150,000 cases of colorectal cancer diagnosed, and every year there are 50,000 deaths due to the disease. She related that many of these deaths could be prevented if they were detected early in colon cancer screenings.
Dr. Reddy notes that the "2nd Annual Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run is slated for Saturday, April 28 at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center. It's a step to reduce those numbers.
Registration is at 7:00 a.m., Warm-up is at 8:15 a.m. The Kid's Fun run is at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Timed Run is at 9 a.m.; the 5K Walk is at 9:05 a.m.
Registration fees are $25 for adults. Survivors of Colorectal Cancer are free. Children 12 and under are $12.
Survivor's families are invited to form support groups to walk on behald of their loved one.
Registration packet pickup is at Fleet Feet Sports on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26, from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. and April 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
