NBC NATIONAL NEWS — A federal investigation into transmission control problems with the BMW 7-series has found 16 crashes and five injuries.
US safety regulators have been studying the 7-series since August after complaints the vehicle can roll away after the driver has left the vehicle.
Now, the investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis, which is one step closer to a recall.
The investigation involves nearly 122-thousand BMWs from the 2002 to 2008 model years.
The vehicles have electronic transmission controls, and in some cases, owners may think the cars in park when they're actually in neutral.
