Included in that haul are nominations for record, song and album of the year.
Teen sensation Taylor Swift will provide some of Beyonce's competition
In each of those three major categories. Her best seller "Fearless" is up for album of the year, while "You Belong to Me" is a contender for record and song of the year.
Another triple threat diva is lady gaga who was nominated for record and song of the year for "Poker Face" and album of the year for "The Fame" among her five nominations.
The Black Eyed Peas also scored in person at Wednesday night's
combination concert/nominations announcement. Six nominations in all, including album of the year and record of the year for their hit "I got a feeling". "With the recession and this environment, it really felt like people needed a pick me up and kind of an escape, somewhere to feel good, and music is that place,” said the Black Eyed Peas’ Fergie. Six nominations also went to R&B singer Maxwell.
He too, performed at the event, singing the Michael Jackson song "The Lady in my Life" in tribute to the late singer. "That song is so sensual and so beautiful, and I just said let me give it a go. I hope it worked for people, you know. I hope people liked it," said Grammy nominee Maxwell. The Grammy winners will be announced on January 31st.
