BOSSIER CITY, LA — Bossier Sheriff Larry Deen says a Bossier City man added even more charges Thursday afternoon when he swallowed marijuana and head-butted a deputy when law enforcement officers went to his home to arrest him on domestic abuse charges.
Deputies met Edward R. Zettler, 45, of Bossier City, at his residence around 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12 to arrest him for physically abusing his wife the night before. Zettler and his wife got into a verbal argument that got physical when he struck his wife multiple times in the face and body, pushed her down and threatened her repeatedly. She was able to get out of the house just before noon Thursday and contacted the Bossier Sheriff’s Department.
She told deputies Zettler has physically abused her for nearly a year now, even in the presence of their two-year-old son. Deputies did observe multiple bruises and a black eye on the victim.
When deputies arrived at his house Thursday afternoon, Zettler met them at the front door. He stepped out onto the front porch, and when deputies asked him to empty his pockets for officer safety, Zettler pulled out a roll of currency and a suspected bag of marijuana. He dropped the cash, but he threw the marijuana into his mouth and swallowed it. When a deputy instructed him to spit it out, Zettler threw back his head, striking the deputy in the mouth with the back of his head. He was quickly subdued.
Deputies asked Zettler twice if he had any more drugs in his residence, and he repeatedly said, “No.” He then gave deputies consent to search the residence, and they found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the living room. Narcotics agents arrived on the scene, and they also found a baggie of methamphetamine in his bedroom and even more meth and marijuana hidden in a shed in his back yard.
Zettler was arrested on charges of resisting an officer, possession of Schedule II (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule I (marijuana), obstruction of justice and domestic abuse battery.
Deputies also arrested a second man in the house when they found him with marijuana. Harold J. Choate, 42, was charged with possession of Schedule I (marijuana) – 2nd offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men were transported to the Bossier Maximum Security Facility for booking; Zettler has a bond of $14,000, while Choate’s bond is set $2,000.
