CALCASIEU PARISH, LA — On April 11 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Combined Anti-Drug Task Force (C.A.T. Team) Detective Sgt. Jeff Cole conducted a stop on a rental car for a traffic violation near mile marker 32 eastbound on I-10.
During the traffic stop, Sgt. Cole allowed his K-9 "Basco" to conduct a free air sniff of the air around the car. After Basco alerted to the odor of narcotics, Sgt. Cole conducted a search of the car and recovered luggage bags from the trunk of the car containing approximately 11.5 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $23,000.
Following interviews with detectives, Howard L. Dunns, 36, of Bridgeton, New Jersey, a passenger in the rental car, was arrested and booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
Judge Ron Ware set his bond at $25,000.
