Zachary, La (NBC33) — Police choppers buzzed overhead and swarms of law enforcement spilled over the Zachary area near East Mount Pleasant Road Tuesday, even after finding the body of a two-month-old boy in a wooded area.
"Sad situation, horrible situation," said Jovan Anthony, who lives nearby.
The boy's mother, 22-year old Sabrina Maiden, now under arrest, charged with first degree murder. Investigators said she left home Monday morning -- naked and on foot -- with the child after a domestic dispute with the boy's father. She was found a couple hours later, on nearby Barsket Road.
"She wandered into a neighbor's backyard, was incoherent and combative," said Casey Hicks, spokewoman for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. "We contacted EMS and took her to the hospital."
Her son, Prince Javeion Brown, was not with her. A relative called police to let them know that Maiden should've had a child, and at 2 a.m., law enforcement started their search.
"This was an exhaustive search for all agencies involved and a dissapointing outcome," Hicks said.
Neighbors were taken aback by the news.
"It really saddens my heart to know a baby, was found dead," said Anthony. "A child is a blessing from God. Anyone who wants to hurt a child shouldn't. We should protect children from harm and danger."
The boy's father, Willie Brown, 32, was also arrested for unrelated charges, possession of marijuana and possession of a handgun near a controlled and dangerous substance.
The coroner will determine the exact cause of death.
