NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Amber Stewart, 10 years old, and her brother were having a sleep over at their grandmother's home when a fire broke out early Thursday morning in Fresno, California.
Stewart said that she smelled smoke and then woke up everyone in the home and made sure they got out safely.
Fighter crews arrived to an enormous blaze around 1:30 a.m. and more than a dozen fighters helped to tackle the fire.
Charred debris is all that is left, but Stewart's grandmother, Geri Hansen, said that she was thankful that her granddaughter knew what to do and helped the family escape.
Stewart learned what to do after firefighters visited her school.
