NBC NATIONAL NEWS —
People across Connecticut woke either annoyed or relieved to hear state senators passed a bill to do away the death penalty.
State leaders spent 10 hours debating the bill, but finally voted to abolish capital punishment for future crimes.
Twenty of 22 Democratic senators voted for repeal, including three who had been against it.
Senate Republicans still oppose it.
The bill will allow the 11 men on death row to be executed and it establishes tougher prison conditions for inmates.
