GEISMAR, LA (NBC33) — A vinyl plant in Geismar will be closed through May due to an explosion that happened last week [1].
The explosion and fire came from an area of Westlake Chemical that makes parts for plastic pipe. The fire was under control in just a few hours and no one was hurt. But as you can imagine there was a lot of damage.
Officials at Westlake Chemical tell NBC33 News that the plant will be closed through mid-May.
The estimated clean up costs run between $5 and $7 million.
