BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) — Those who serve our country are now getting a chance to start a new career.
That's because there's a job fair for military veterans next Thursday April 5 from nine to one at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge. Fifty-three different companies will be at the fair and more than 200 veterans are expected to go. With veterans leaving the military in increasing numbers the Louisiana Workforce Commission says this job fair is needed more than ever.
"You get more and more veterans being discharged every day from Afghanistan and Iraq coming back. They're looking for work. I think the current unemployment rate for vets is eleven percent and even greater for veterans that are older than that," says Bob Hartman of the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
