NBC NATIONAL NEWS — Most years, the month of March finds much of the country still blanketed under winter weather of one type or another, but obviously, not this year.
Coming out of the fourth warmest winter on record a lot of retailers are getting a jump on cashing in a bit earlier, especially garden centers at hardware and home improvement stores.
"Throughout the USA, it's warm and everyone's ready to get out and do stuff," says Home Depot manager John Reinke.
At Lowe's spring stock is coming in by the truckloads and selling just as fast.
At rival Home Depot, they're putting on their annual spring sale earlier than ever.
It's called "Spring Black Friday", a takeoff on the Friday following Thanksgiving.
In years past the date of the sale depended on the part of the country the store was located, but this year it's March 30th at all Home Depot stores because it's so warm so early.
In a sign the economy is warming up as well, retailers say they're seeing consumers more willing to treat themselves with a new grill or patio set this spring.
