Bayou L’Ourse, La — On February 29, 2012, Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in Bayou L’Ourse in reference to an alleged rape.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke to a mother of an 11 year of old female. She advised deputies that she noticed a handwritten letter on her table, and when she began to read it, she realized that it was her daughter telling a story of how she was raped when she was 8 years old. She advised in the letter that she was raped by a subject who was babysitting her while her mother was at work.
On March 5, 2012, the victim was interviewed by a forensic interviewer of the Child Advocacy Center in Thibodaux where she revealed the details of the rape.
The suspect, Charles D. Wilkerson, 53, of Morgan City, was taken into custody by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and later transferred to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where he was booked on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 for one count of aggravated rape. His bond has not been set as of the time of this news release.
It should be noted that Wilkerson is a registered sex offender as a result of a 2011 conviction of indecent behavior with a juvenile in St. Mary Parish.
