SHREVEPORT, LA — A man who was serving time in the Shreveport City Jail was mistakenly released from custody early this morning.
On March 6, 2012, Deotis V. Cooper, 18, was sentenced in Shreveport City Court to pay a fine of $340 or serve 20 days in jail.
Cooper had been arrested by Shreveport Police officers back on March 3, 2012 and charged with one count of Simple Battery. He was also booked in at that time as a fugitive from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, Cooper was mistakenly released as jail officials were processing the release of another inmate.
Police are now looking for Deotis Cooper, whose last known address was in the 3000 block of Woodford Street in Shreveport. Cooper has one more day to serve at the Shreveport City Jail and will then be transferred to the Caddo Correctional Center.
He is described as a black male, approximately five feet five inches tall weighing about 140 pounds.
Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw immediately ordered an administrative investigation into the incident to determine exactly how Cooper came to be released. Anyone with any information regarding the whereabouts of Deotis V. Cooper is urged to call the Shreveport Police Department at (318) 673-7300 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at (318) 673-7373.
