ABILENE, TX (KRBC) — Taylor Partain, 24, who is a lieutenant with the Hamby volunteer fire department, was arrested this morning, Thursday, March 22, after the Taylor County Sheriff's office said he admitted to starting a fire at a church.
The incident happened around one this morning at the Hamby United Methodist church. An outer wall of the building was damaged. The pastor of the church says that Partain was not a member and doesn't know why he chose this place of worship to commit arson.
"I don't know for sure if you would consider this targeting the church or what it is. I absolutely have no idea why somebody would come out here and start a fire,” Pastor Holland, said. “I don't feel personally attacked and I don't believe that the church here feels personally attacked."
Pastor Holland went on to add that he was disappointed that Partain would choose to act in this way.
Partain is currently being held in the Taylor County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
