Lafayette Parish, La (NBC33) — Lafayette and St. Martin Parish Schools were closed today.
Lafayette Parish Superintendent Pat Cooper said that they decided to close the schools after a tornado warning early this morning.
He says he just wanted to keep students and teachers out of harms' way.
"As it's turned out, the situation is not as serious as I thought it was going to be, but it's better to err on the side of safety thank to take a chance with the lives of our children and staff," stated Cooper.
Cooper said Lafayette Parish schools will be open tomorrow.
