Baton Rouge, La — After wrapping up the 2012 indoor season by defending her NCAA Indoor crown in the 200-meter dash and earning her first career All-America honor in the 60-meter dash, Lady Tiger sprint star Kimberlyn Duncan remained among the 10 collegiate athletes under consideration for The Bowerman with the release of the latest women's watch list on Friday afternoon.
Duncan dominated the 200-meter field in the national final held March 10 at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships by setting a new indoor personal record with the world's fastest time in the 2012 indoor season at 22.74 seconds at the Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.
By defending her NCAA Indoor gold medal in the 200-meter dash, Duncan extended her streak of wins in 200-meter finals against collegiate competition to 14-straight victories. It's an impressive streak that dates back to a win at the Tyson Invitational during the 2011 indoor season.
Not only that, but Duncan became one of the top-10 200-meter sprinters indoors in collegiate history after running 22.74 to become the No. 9-ranked performer on the NCAA's all-time indoor list.
Duncan is only the fourth female sprinter in collegiate history to win back-to-back NCAA Indoor titles for the 200-meter dash, and the first since LSU great Muna Lee won consecutive titles in 2002 and 2003.
The Katy, Texas, native added her first career All-America honor in the 60-meter dash on the final day for the 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships after taking eighth place in the national final. Duncan finished the 2012 indoor season with a personal best in the event of 7.26 that was posted at the Tyson Invitational. She finished the season as the NCAA's No. 10-ranked performer in the event in 2012.
While finishing the NCAA Indoor Championships as LSU's leading scorer with 11 points for two days of competition at the Jacksons Indoor Track, Duncan was also the leading Lady Tiger during the SEC Indoor Championships while scoring 20.5 points as she won the conference title 200 meters, earned an All-SEC runner-up finish in the 60 meters, and ran a 53.6-second split for the second leg of LSU's 4x400 relay that was also crowned this year's SEC Indoor champion in the event.
