HOUSTON, TX (NBC) —
A Houston, Texas mother is one step closer to seeing her son for the first time in eight years. A woman she considered a friend, is charged with kidnapping the child when he was only eight months old.
Auboni Champion-Morin has had eight long and painful years to think about what she would say to her son when they were reunited.
"All I can say is I love you. i love you and i'm always gonna be there, and i never gave up," Champion-Morin said.
Little Miguel was only 8 months old when he disappeared with a woman, Auboni Considered a friend and the baby's Godmother.
Krystle Rochelle Tanner was supposed to baby-sit Miguel for only one night. That was in November of 2004.
"When I came back to get him, him and her were gone -- the mother was like oh no she'll be right back. But nothing happened and then i called the police," Champion-Morin recalled.
Houston police say they searched for answers, but the case was closed two years later.
Champion-Morin says she and her husband and other children prayed for Miguel every night.
"I just prayed that he was safe, he was loved that he was well taken care of and that he would come home."
Miguel, now eight years old, will soon be reunited with his family.
Sheriff's deputies in St. Augustine County say Krystle Tanner's sister called to report Miguel is alive and living in Houston.
"Once I see him, I'm gonna hold him in my arms and let him know who I am and hope that he can fill the same the same thing that I feel for him.
Tanner remains in jail without bond chared with Felony Kidnapping. Investigators say she is not cooperating.
Champion-Morin has to take a DNA test to prove she is Miguel's mother.
