CHALMETTE, LA (NBC33) — This is the time of year everyone in South Louisiana loves - crawfish season! The tasty critters are landing on newspaper lined tables everywhere and next week the annual crawfish festival will kick off to packed crowds.
The four-day festival will begin on March 22 at the Sigur Cultural Center in Chalmette. Along with the main attraction, eating crawfish, the event includes live music, crafts and all sorts of entertainment such as festival-style rides.
The festival got started back in 1975 and has become one of the most popular traditions in Louisiana. Because the event highlights the best of Louisiana culture, it gains attention world-wide with visitors flying in from all over to get a true taste of Cajun living.
The entertainment will kick of at 6:00 p.m. on opening day.
