WALKER, LA (NBC33) — The mayor of the City of Walker launches a new campaign to keep tax dollars in the city.
Mayor Bobby Font says the "Shop Walker" push is to help the city grow. The idea is to promote locally, so people will stay and spend their money around town.
He says the money helps keep sales tax revenue in the city to help fund police and fire departments.
The people at Wholly Ground Coffee House have been there for less than a year, and say the city has welcomed them with open arms and wallets.
"People of the town are excited about us being here,” Kristi Miller, Wholly Ground Manager, said. “[They] want us to do well. They want to see local business do well, so they are happy to support us and rally behind us."
Mayor Font says he and his wife came up with the idea, and it took over two months to get the idea off and running.
