BATON ROUGE, LA — During the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board March 15, Board members selected three candidates to interview for the position of Superintendent of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. The three finalists included:
Maria Pitre-Martin, Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
H. Allen Smith, Executive Director of the Summit Schools Network in Denver
Bernard Taylor, Superintendent of Schools, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Smith removed his name as a finalist late this afternoon.
The interview schedule is:
Tuesday, March 20 - 5:00 p.m. - Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin
Wednesday, March 21 - 5:00 p.m. - Bernard Taylor
The School Board has scheduled workshops beginning at 5 p.m. for each interview session. The workshops will take place at the Instructional Resource Center located at 1022 S. Foster Drive. A Special Board meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, March 22, at which time a finalist is expected be announced.
Candidates are expected to visit schools during the day prior to their interviews.
It is expected each candidate’s interview will last approximately two hours. Board members will be given approximately one hour for questions. Following the Board interview, members of the public are invited to ask questions of the candidates, as well.
All candidates will be present in Baton Rouge for the interview process. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
