Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — When Sharron Diamond learned about the school closure, she wasn't happy.
She says shutting down the schools to students on such short notice negatively impacts parents.
School board members say they didn't really have a choice, and that they hadn’t planned for this situation.
Instead, the school system is calling it a “professional development work day”, thus allowing the teachers to go the State Capitol and rally against legislation, they believe, impacts education.
Diamond says it shouldn't be happening.
Parents aren't the only ones angry about the closures. Catholic schools use EBR school buses, but they're not running tomorrow.
Diamond says she supports the teachers, she just wishes they would have thought about how their decisions affect their students.
