Baton Rouge, (NBC33) — All schools in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System will be closed Wednesday, March 14. This closure affects only students. The School System has declared Wednesday a Professional Development Work Day. All district employees, except for cafeteria workers and bus drivers, are expected to report to work as normal.
The decision was made after a higher than normal number of teachers reported they would be absent from schools on Wednesday.
"When making decisions about school closures, we always consider the safety and well-being of our students," said Interim Superintendent Carlos Sam. “We also want to give our parents and students enough time to make alternative arrangements. That is why we are making this decision early."
Classes are expected to resume Thursday, March 15. The School System will continue to monitor the situation for the remainder of the week.
