NEW ROADS, LA — New Roads Mayor Robert Myer is warning customers of the city’s water service to beware of any requests for payments that do not come from the city.
He said local water customers have made him aware of a letter from HomeServe USA Repair Management Corp., notifying them they do not have “Water Service Line Coverage” from the company, which could leave them responsible for the costly maintenance and repair of the water service lines to their home.
Myer said the letter from HomeServe asks water customers to pay as much a $59.88 per year for its services, which claims to include up to $6,000 in annual coverage for “covered repairs, $3,000 per call, two calls per year.”
“The City of New Roads has no affiliation with this company, nor is any company currently authorized to service the city’s water lines. The City of New Roads maintains all of its water lines, and any usage charges should be paid directly to the city,” Myer said.
The letter states that HomeServe is an “independent company separate from your local utility or community and offers this optional service as an authorized representative for AMT Warranty Corp., who is your contract issuer.”
“We are currently investigating this company and its affiliates,” Myer said. “At this point, all we know is that this company is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau and that its home address is Miami, Florida.”
