East Baton Rouge - The Department of Public Works announce a new plan to help streamline their 3-1-1 phone system.
Callers can still use that 3-1-1 number to get in touch with DPW, but now a new online router called "q-alert" will reroutes the complaints to the proper department.
Officials say the system cost up to 75,000 dollars to install.
On rainy days like today, they have over 400 callers. With the new system each tip will get " special attention."
Lafayette - The heavy rain inundating parts of Louisiana today. Carencro in Lafayette parish is especially hard hit. A state of emergency has been in effect for most of the afternoon. The National Weather Service says as much as ten inches of rain fell in that part of the state in just the past 24 hours. The rain so deep in places people had to use airboats to get across parts of the parish. State police say 30 troopers are dedicated to rescuing people stranded in high water. That, while the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is providing ten flat bottom and shallow water boats - along with 12 agents who are working with local first responder agencies in search and rescue efforts.
