LAFAYETTE, La (NBC33) — Two escaped prison inmates are back in jail after a five and a half hour manhunt Saturday.
Lafayette Sheriff's deputies say prison inmates Kevin Gildhouse and Tony Jackson overpowered two deputies at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center around 1:30 Saturday morning. According to reports, the inmates showed them a makeshift weapon and then ran off.
Deputies caught up with Gildhouse at the Super One Store near the intersections of Ambassador Caffery Parkway and Robley Drive at 6:39 Saturday morning. Jackson was found 30 minutes later at the Valero Fuel Station in the same area.
Both men are in prison for major charges. Deputies tell us Gildhouse is in jail on a First Degree Murder charge. According to reports, Jackson was in prison for alleged armed robberies in Lafayette and St. Martin parishes.
They will now face Aggravated Escape charges. The investigation is ongoing.
