ASSUMPTION PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A 15 year old boy was stabbed to death by another teen in the evening on Thursday, March 8. Detectives say the two went to school together and had been involved in an argument prior to the incident.
The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at around 6:00 p.m. on Dorseyville Lane. When they arrived they found Eric Myles, Jr., 10th grade Assumption High School Student, lying in the roadway with a stab wound.
Myles was transported to Assumption Community Hospital, but was later pronounced dead as a result of his injury.
Detectives say a witness called in the crime and they were able to quickly locate the teen responsible to the stabbing. They say he confessed to the crime.
Reports note that the two teens were nearby neighbors. The two got into a fist fight stemming from a strained relationship that had developed over the past couple of weeks.
The 9th grade student who confessed to the crime has been charged with Second Degree Murder and is being held at the St. James Parish Youth Center.
The knife used in the altercation was a kitchen grade butcher knife and was recovered from the teen’s home.
Additional security/deputies were sent to Assumption High School this morning as a precautionary measure. According to School Officials, counselors will also be on hand to handle the needs of the students affected by this homicide.
The victim’s body will be sent for autopsy by the Assumption Parish Coroner to determine the exact cause of death.
